DIY Laundry Detergent

Growing up with contact allergies and severe eczema, I had a few key things in mind when formulating my signature soaps.

I wanted every bar to meet 3 major criteria for hygiene.

1. Be moisturizing enough to not flare eczema

2. Later well enough to wash my hair

3. Be strong enough to be turned into laundry detergent.

So I developed a recipe for my own laundry soap - my favorite are the Yellow Label bars.

To make your own soap you need 3 Ingredients.

- Washing Soda (Arm and Hammer Brand available at most stores)

- Borax (20 Mule Team Borax available at most grocery stores)

- Bar Soap (lemongrass is my personal favorite)

To Make the Soap:

Grate the bar soap or mix in food processor until finely ground.

In a large bowl, mix 2 parts washing soda, 2 parts Borax, and 1 part grated soap. I personally use 1 bar of grated soap and 1 cup each of washing soda and Borax.

Store in a mason jar.

Use 2 tablespoons to 1.4 cup per load of laundry. (safe for H.E. washers)
